What’ the Worst of the Triple Threat Holidays for Fat Loss: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas?

October 30th, 2009

Ok so it’s getting close.  Already I am feeling overwhelmed and in a love hate relationship with every moment of it.  It’s Sick!  My body is already starting to panic (and salivate just a little too).

So what is this looming issue that is pressuring me?  What is starting to scare me?

It’s my kids!

No seriously it IS the kids… all “hopped” up on sugar and calories. So what is my real problem that is freaking me out?

It’s the holidays!

I have to ask you AND remind myself about the “triple threat” that is looming in the dark scary ends of the last of the belt holes.

Think about this for a minute.  What is the triple threat I am talking about?

It’s not cappuccinos, cookies and colas…

It’s the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

My question is this (and honestly I don’t know the answer) which one is worse for sabotaging your goals?

I just realized it today.  Usually I think in terms of the here and now.  I think about this specific holiday event and deal with them one on one, like Rocky and the Russian Rule of boxing, Ivan Drago or for you old school fans like me Mr. “T” as Clubber Lang.

Well this year in talking things over I realized just how “amp’d” up my kids are.  I have 3 kids all under 5 and we just came off the Canadian Thanksgiving a week later than most due to some family activities and now we are running full speed into Halloween, then bang into the American Thanksgiving (YES I do in fact celebrate that one as I carry my “greencard” at all times and my parents live down in the warm sun of Naples, FL full time) and then BANG we will be hammering right into that wall of feasting we like to call Christmas.

WOW!

It feels like this year is punching me in the face.  I have no idea which one is truly worse; I think it changes for each person and family.  Is it Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas; or the candy, the cake, the big dinners, the extra spirit consumption or just a little bit too much for too long during this season?

For me I could argue that each of them is equally brutal in terms of keeping the fat trimmed off, but today it’s all about the 1 million calories I am about to uncaringly consume in Halloween candy.

Just look at all those innocent non violent candies just waiting to be consumed, sitting there in that tidy little bowl with all their pretty colors and nice packaging, screaming at me, fighting for the top honors to be the first flavor to hit my taste buds and attack my fat stores with unwaveringly contempt for all my fat loss and lean body lifestyle goals that I have worked so hard to keep.  Darn’it… I can’t wait to eat some of those little buggers.

Heck, I could easily eat 2lbs of candy this weekend if I don’t keep an eye on those little demons.  To avoid that consider writing it down every time you eat one.  Or fire up a notch on the fridge so everyone can see your success and help hold you accountable to your meal plan.PicForMyNewsletterNov22003chicagoHALLOWEENCANDY

Hey worse or not, who cares, today it is all about the Halloween.  My kids have a “thing” to go to this evening and tomorrow another, then finally on Saturday they will be crushing the candies alongside their dear old dad, like there is no tomorrow.

Well OK maybe I will keep that in check and we won’t consume too much, but it is amazing just how many calories we consume by “accident” on Halloween and over the other holidays.

Think about this.  The average mini candy bar is 90 calories.  WOW that is crazy, 90 calories in that cute little delicious candy bar… no way.  Hey before you look for a healthy alternative (this one is more for the Canadians) a Tim Horton’s Glazed Sour Cream Timbit (more commonly known to southerners as doughnut holes ) has just over 90 calories and is just 1 bite small.

So back to my question. Of the triple threat which one is the deadliest to the waistlines of North America?

Which one is your biggest threat to achieving your lean body before the New Years Celebrations and Resolutions?

Is it…

  1. Halloween
  2. Thanksgiving
  3. Christmas

Or is it the culmination of the “triple threat”

Man I am sure that each one has its argument and is both good and bad, but the culmination of the “triple threat” is just dubiously evil like Han Solo on a crash course with revenge of Jaba the Hut.  Which if I don’t watch myself this season I am sure to look like.

Just for a minute let’s play the game..  It’s kind of like that shell game on the streets of New York.  You go down some shady alley in pursuit of some action as you see a group of people screaming and hooting and hollering around the table having a great time.

You wander in closer without being alerted to anything wrong.  You get closer and closer to the table, you then get sucked in and are pressed tightly against the table, while one man orchestrates the rules of engagement around his table.  He clearly notes that neither before nor after and at no time in between will anyone be allowed to touch the merchandise as if it were some mythical and mysterious creature.

Now he works his way around the table to see who’s interested in what he is offering from his plate of goodies.  Finally it comes to you… it’s your turn, you embrace your chance to get caught up in the feeding frenzy brought on by the vultures at the table.  If you don’t get your fix now you may never get a chance to get it again.  You better get as much as you can now or it is lost forever.

You dive in, grab at the goods and check it out.  Eyeballing the stuff as it hits the table once more.

The shells start to move around, you keep your eye on the one you want, the one that has all the goodness sitting inside waiting for it to come around and stop again and waiting for your chance to POUNCE on it with the precision of a patient panther.

The mythical beast is back…  NOW!  You jump on it.  You claim your prize only to find it is… its… its… completely empty, leaving you wanting for more.  You are standing there needing another hit, another fix, just one more chance to get just one more taste of sweetness.  Or maybe sweet revenge.

Now let’s think about that.  It can work so many ways.  I am sure you already thought about the feeding frenzy; that was a bit too obvious around the table.

But did you think the man running the game as your local candy man during Halloween or maybe dad or mom running the dinner table at thanksgiving or Christmas?

How about that magical mythical beast?  Were you thinking it was Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Maybe the mythical beast was your favourite Halloween candy, Thanksgiving Food or Christmas Desert.

Hey regardless, they all come up empty shells.  Most of our Holidays are laden with empty calories, just sitting and waiting to sabotage our fat loss success.

I mean really what is the worst offender in your mind.  What makes you cringe with fat storing fear?

I really think this need to be compared closely, but for now I will let you work on a game plan to keep the “triple threat” to your fat loss goals at bay.

As for tonight, I am getting ready to monitor 3 crazy kids doing some candy scarfing and do my best to control the sugar input they get this weekend, maybe watch my insulin levels a bit too just to be safe I added in a STOP day today to kick off some added fat limiting tricks to my treats, while i really watch my intake and stick to my meal plans for the rest of the week.

Let me share a little secret with you to avoid the binging and over indulgence.  Every time you have a craving or are getting ready for a feast this holiday season, I want you to consider having a big glass of water or a protein shake with a multi vitamin about 20-30 minutes before your event or if its mid craving and too late to plan ahead, stop eating the junk, drink a big glass of water, pop the multi and wait 20 minutes.  There is a good chance that your cravings will be gone.

WHY?  Well its simple, the body is often times craving what it is lacking, not always sugar which we often times confuse with hunger and lack of energy.  Once you satiate the brain and nourish it with the nutrients it is craving the cravings for sweets and treats will be gone.  The big glass of water will satisfy the gut reaction and fill the void while the multi vitamin does its magic.

I have used that technique more often then I like to admit.  But that’s another story for a post insulin shock evening while struggling to get back on my game with my mealplan.

Everyone falls off the “wagon” but remember if you have a good game plan and part of your battle plan is to follow a strategy and nourish the body with an intelligent meal plan, then you are only off the game plan for a quick break.  You are only off until the next meal when you can get back on your meal plan.  Face it, the good you do now following your mealplan far outweighs the bad you will do at a handful of the “triple threat” feastings that will occur.

Speaking of meal plans, eating a clean game plan is pretty darn important if you want to cheat you way thru the next 3 months of feasts.  Consider this my battle cry against the “triple threat”; if you don’t already have a game plan I want to offer you my Done-For-You Fast Fat Loss Meal Plans as your battle plan against the bulge.

Get your meal plans and battle the bulge for a 1 week Halloween Special Price, It’s pretty scary, but I am almost giving these away.

Get in shape before the New Year’s Resolutions.  Get your meal plans here.

OK so off to avoid some candy and if I must, just have a protein shake and a multi vitamin to ward off the serious binge attacks on the kids candy bags.

What’s your opinion on the worst saboteur to your fat loss and what is your secret to staying on your game plan during the “triple threat” holiday season?

Have an amazing Halloween and keep a tight belt on to remind you to stop eating all the kids candies.

Patrick.

P.S. I just noticed that I forgot to tell you about another great snack I like to use on Halloween evening.  Protein bars.  I keep them kicking around the house and I have to be honest, I just found a new one I like.  Not to brand name drop, but Kashi GoLean Rolls.  Pretty awesome, they just so happen to follow our Fast Fat Loss or Foundation Fat Loss Snacking Rules and offer you a darn near perfect 2 portion snack.

P.P.S. Done-For-You Fast Fat Loss meal plans work amazing well and can be found at www.EmpoweredMealPlans.com anytime, but only for a limited time using our “privatesale” link for the next week, Friday to Friday, I will remind you next Friday morning, just in case.

Personalization And Personal Trainers

October 22nd, 2009

Today, many companies provide varying degrees of customized or personalized products and programs.  This is very true with Personal and Professional Trainers, but NOT in the fitness industry as a whole.

Personal Trainers provide you with a workout program.  Each trainer has a technique or exercise protocols they use to get you the results you are looking for as fast as they can.  After all your goals achieve is their litmus test.

Once you have a plan in place from your Personal Trainer or “Coach”, you will often times review it with the Coach and make modifications to adjust to your wants and needs.  This is customizing or as a friend of mine likes to say custom fitness.

cb_abs

If you don’t have a personal trainer or don’t have the budget to get one today, then I suggest you check out one of the best workout programs around.  Turbulence Training from our good buddy Craig Ballantyne.  TT is an awesome series of exercise programs and is almost like having a Personal Trainer at your beckon call (especially if you take advantage of his TT memberships).  Check out Turbulence Training.  (That’s Craig and his dog “bally” in the photo.)

Now there are many more varying degrees of what is customized or personalized, but any modifications to your nutrition, exercise and supplement program is “personalization”.  Even if you use a 20 year old training manual and make modifications to it to suit your needs, that is PERSONALIZATION.

The only way to get a better personalized effect is if you were to do it yourself (writing an entire nutrition, exercise and supplement regime), but that isn’t going to happen.  Here’s the reason why.  Most people are already following their own game plan and most (76% of North America) is overweight, many clinically obese.  So clearly the game plan is not working.  The reason a Personal Trainer, Fitness Coach or health Consultant is able to provide you with such dramatic results is for several reasons.  The most important and obvious reason is they do it for a living, full time, every day.  Their full time business is providing solutions that work to get you the results you are looking for.  That’s a big difference.  You spend 8-10 hours a day working, 2-6 hours doing family stuff and try to squeeze in a workout, then the left over time you don’t have is dedicated to vegging in front of the TV, eating one more quick poorly thought out meal and trying to sort out a nutrition game plan, while they pitch you Big Macs, pop, beer and pizza.  Trust me that plan is not going to work.

So the reason a Personal Trainer or Coach is so effective for your goals, is simply because they are dedicated to your goals.  They set a game plan.  They implement that game plan for you to follow and hold you accountable.  They are invaluable in terms of results especially if you are entering a Transformation Challenge and plan to win.

Quite literally you pay for your results.  You are paying a professional to do the work you don’t have time to do, like thousands of hours of research, education, trial and error and the likes.  Then they deliver to you a solution that will work for your goals.

Another reason is that Personal Trainers have access to tools you may not be familiar with.  They have a myriad of nutrition, exercise and supplement solutions.  They work with companies and brands they can trust and only present you with ones that work, like the Personalized Nutrition Programs, Meal Plans and Supplements at www.EmpoweredNutrition.com

Most Personal Trainers focus on their core business of exercise and accountability and defer their needs to other professionals like Empowered Nutrition for their nutrition and supplement needs.

If you are still wondering why a Personal Trainer is good for you, then consider this.  A Personal Trainer is NOT good for you, but Personalization IS for you.  Getting a Personal Trainer is the best thing you can do to fast track your results and is the only way you will get all your needs Personalized to your goals and lifestyle.

Learn how a Personalized Nutrition Program can help you achieve your goals and make your Personal Trainers job easier and make you both look good.

I have a pretty big announcement on Personalization coming shortly.  This one can change your body and your life.

I think you get it but just in case you don’t I want to help you think of your professional team not as trainers, consultants or gurus, but as tools to your success, they are part of your coaching team and should all be called “coaches”, at least until you master their craft and surpass their knowledge and expertise.

Patrick

PERSONAL TRAINERS VERSUS PROFESSIONAL TRAINERS

October 19th, 2009

This weekend I had some time to think and for many years now I have been touting the difference between Personal and Professional Trainers.  personal-trainer_with_clipboard

I want your opinion on this topic and have provided some questions to prompt the discussion at the end of this post.

YES there is a very large difference.

And YES there is a place, need and time for both.

Let me explain what I classify each as being, then explore why both are needed in today’s fitness industry and economic times.

A Personal Trainer is someone who provides you with a myriad of workout programs.  Typically a Personal Trainer works for a fitness company or gym.  A Personal Trainer may start their role with that company as a “programmer” providing first time tours and equipment know how sessions.  Most “programmers” will provide you with a generic program to follow.  As a Personal Trainer you will often times get a more customized workout routine.  This is often part of a package provided after an in depth assessment and fitness tests.  Often times this will be your program and you may follow it long term with or without adjustment.  Personal Trainers as I mentioned work for a company, but are typically building their reputation and client list as well as results and confidence in the business.  Many Personal Trainers work on an hourly rotation.  You can often buy 1-144 hours of time with a Personal Trainer through your gym.  A Personal Trainer has a goal adjacent to yours.  Their own goals are to get you to your goal as fast as possible.  Often times they do this within 3-6 months.

A Professional Trainer provides a personalized approach to your results.  A Professional Trainer often times owns and operates their own private training studio or works with a team of Professional Trainers in a private facility, not your typical gym.  A Professional Trainer most often works on “sessions” sometimes just under or over an hour, ranging from 45-75 minutes, providing you with the best results workouts and services in mind.  A Professional Trainer will constantly research and review new knowledge and opportunities to enhance your results with a strong 3 pronged approach to nutrition, exercise and supplements.  Most Professional Trainers will suggest a time line in terms of months and days to your goals and offer you a training package tailored to fit those time lines and your budget.  Professional Trainers are typically flexible in the packages they can provide you as they are not bound by a corporate structure and bundle pricing.  A Professional Trainer has one goal and that is to get you the best results in the shortest possible time with a very intensive strategy and reducing that as you achieve your goals.  Some Professional Trainers will even work you OUT of the training studio and wean you off into a touch up or tune up phase, meeting every few weeks to months to keep you on track for life.

PersonalTrainerHomeTrainingBoth Personal and Professional Trainers are focused on your results.  Both trainers want you to provide referrals; it is the source of their lively hood.  Professional Trainers may have a stronger motivation to get referrals as they are independently supported and new blood is not driven to their doors like large gyms will do for Personal Trainers.  Both trainers will have access to amazing new nutrition, exercise and supplement strategies and products that you may not have knowledge of.  Both Personal and Professional Trainers will fast track you to your results, save you time and money wasted on useless exercises and products and workout theories.  Both Trainers will provide you with the means to achieve your goals faster and more effectively than you could ever do alone.

Now there is one more aspect I have not covered.  Personal and Professional Trainers will do one more thing equally well.  They will motivate you and keep you accountable to your goals and the strategy you have structured with them to achieve those goals in the time frame you have set them for.

Accountability is the main reasons why Personal and Professional Trainers are a huge asset in your armory of weapons in the war on fat loss and muscle building.

Now I will try to quickly explain why they are both needed in today’s fitness industry and economic times.

Personal Trainers are highly skilled, often times certified with one or more training organizations.  Many are required to take ongoing trainer education programs.  Personal Trainers are employed by a large gym and the first line of professionals the mass population of gym seekers are going.  Personal Trainers are often times less expensive than Professional Trainers, providing many more people with the option to get a trainer and test the waters on their way to results.

Professional Trainers are also highly skilled.  Most are certified with several training organizations and constantly taking more unique certification courses on top of and outside of the standard trainer certification and continuing education programs.  Professional Trainers are typically sought out by referrals of previous clients by existing gym goers looking for greater results and a new or unique experience or increased personalization and customization of services and products.  Professional Trainers do cost more, but if you ask me they are worth every penny.

The bottom line is BOTH Personal and Professional Trainers will help you achieve your goals and cut down on the time it takes to accomplish these goals.  Both will work within your time lines and your budget to achieve these goals and BOTH Personal and Professional Trainers are worth a lifetime of mistakes on your way to a transformed body.

Do you think that there is a difference between Personal and Professional Trainers?

Do you have a success story working with a Personal or Professional Trainer?

Are you a Personal or Professional Trainer?  If so, then post your opinions and let the world know who you are.

Go ahead and post your comments below.  We look forward to hearing from you.

What type of transformation body do you want?

October 13th, 2009

Ok so here is a simple question for you.

I often times get the age old debate form guys about power versus strength.  I also get the bigger versus leaner debate too.

Girls tend to lean towards discussing fat or hot body parts.  Most women I work with also like to debate varying levels of a sexy waist line and appearance.  The big issues I get with my female clients is the overly aggressive positioning about what is too hard or too soft a look for a healthy girl.

In fact most women get way more intense about body image then the men ever do.  Just trust me, the safest move is to stand quietly, nod your head in acceptance and ask a lot of questions and let them tell me what the right answer is.

Ok so this leads me to start a debate right here online and ask you to tell me what the right body is to Crown the Transformation Challenge Winners after December 14th 2009 when the contest closes.

Guys, do you want to see a ripped, overly muscular behemoth body builder or a more of a fitness cover model body.  More so, which one do you want, which one are you going to have after this challenge?

Girls more of the same, what type of male would you want to award as the champion and knight in shining armor?  The big and shredded man or the fitness cover model?

Max n Lacie Beach fun 2 webNow let’s flip this conversation.

Girls, do you want a leaner more appealing body on your women’s champion or do you want a harder, six pack abs popping champion?

Guys, who would catch your eye first and entice you to chat her up, the harder looking girl with a sweet spot of six pack abs or a trim and lean fitness model like girl?

This is an age old debate and will go on well past all of us, but I want to know your desires for your transformation and what you would like to see as a standard set for all Empowered Transformation Champions.

If you haven’t joined the Empowered Nutrition Transformation it’s not too late, you still have just over 8 weeks to go.  Amazing things can happen in 8 weeks, economies can blow up, businesses can boom and bodies can be transformed.

Join the Challenge and Win!  It’s FREE and we are giving away over $3000 in Cash and Prizes just in time for Christmas.

Now let me hear it loud and clear, tell me what body you want for your Empowered Nutrition Transformation Champion, or just check out what other people are saying, post a comment or a roast below.
